What Size Moving Truck Do I Need?
Chances are you can’t calculate off the top of your head what size moving truck you need (unless you happen to work for a moving company). Fortunately, the team at Francis Movers in Toronto has loaded many a moving truck, and we’re able to give you some pro tips for selecting the right size.
The Importance of Having the Right Truck
Renting a moving truck that ends up being too small or too big will undoubtedly prove to be problematic. If the truck is too small, you’ll end up needing to make multiple trips or having to rent a second truck. If the truck is too big, the extra space will make it likely that your items will likely slip and slide en route and get damaged.
How to Gauge Which Truck Size You Need
To figure out how much cargo space you’re going to need, you should pack well ahead of time. Once you have most of your things in boxes, you can do a bit of math to get a good ballpark estimate of the space you’ll need. This is easier to do if you stick to one or two sizes for your boxes.
For the final calculation, your best resource is undoubtedly your local moving company. If you can give them a good idea of how many boxes you have and give them a list of your large furniture items (beds, couches, large appliances, etc.), they can probably take it from there.
It’s worth mentioning, that there’s a general formula in the moving industry, which says that one room equals three feet of length in the moving truck (truck width and height typically don’t vary). Of course, this is a very rough estimate, but it can be helpful in a pinch.
